rhouser's blog http://www.gllug.org/blog/8 en Regular Location Change for the Summer http://www.gllug.org/node/78
Due to some event conflicts downtown, we have moved our regular meeting location from Ted Dee's back to the Ideal Solutions / ACD.net building until future notice. The conflicting events will last through sometime in August.
http://www.gllug.org/node/78#comments Tue, 03 Jun 2008 22:36:10 -0400 rhouser 78 at http://www.gllug.org Thursday's Meeting is NOT at Ted Dee's http://www.gllug.org/node/76
As posted on the calendar, we will be having a BBQ outing in place of the typical downtown meeting this Thursday. Directions, etc. are posted with the event.
http://www.gllug.org/node/76#comments Tue, 20 May 2008 01:50:43 -0400 rhouser 76 at http://www.gllug.org Introduction to Programming Series http://www.gllug.org/node/75
After talking to a few members, I've determined that we need to delve into problem scoping and analysis before we are really ready to start on the object oriented part. So, the next session will be over that topic. If you are interested in the OOP content, you really need to attend this session.

http://www.gllug.org/node/75#comments Fri, 09 May 2008 00:59:20 -0400 rhouser 75 at http://www.gllug.org Introduction to Programming Series http://www.gllug.org/node/66
I've put it off for far too long, but I've finally resolved to start the programming sessions I promised. I've placed the first two sessions on the calendar. My rough plan is to go through purely fundamentals for about the first four classes, then break out a real language for a couple classes. A rough idea of the content:

Parts 1/2 - Prodecural programming and the extreme basics
Parts 3/4 - Object oriented design and related concepts
Parts 5/6 - Getting to know Python and Subversion

http://www.gllug.org/node/66#comments Tue, 11 Mar 2008 19:03:56 -0400 rhouser 66 at http://www.gllug.org Subversion Repositories Capability Added http://www.gllug.org/node/57
As of this afternoon, the gllug.org server supports subversion repositories. Among other things, we'll need this capability when we hold the object oriented programming series a little later this year. Access is currently limited to members, but we could potentially add read-only public access if there is a need. Please let me know if you'd like to make use of this feature, or if you have any questions.
http://www.gllug.org/node/57#comments Sun, 20 Jan 2008 14:44:08 -0500 rhouser 57 at http://www.gllug.org AMD Releases Specifications for ATI Graphics Chips http://www.gllug.org/node/23
For some time now, these rules dictated graphics accelerator choices under Linux:

1.) If you want really good driver support and can afford to run an Intel chipset, you go with Intel's integrated graphics. These drivers are open source, but the specifications they are based upon were now.

2.) If you needed speed and decent non-free driver support, you could go with NVidia. The problems are normally minor enough that the basics could be worked around.

http://www.gllug.org/node/23#comments Wed, 12 Sep 2007 22:08:42 -0400 rhouser 23 at http://www.gllug.org The Server's Up! http://www.gllug.org/node/1
The initial, very rough configuration for the new site is setup and running. There should still be heavy modifications, but at this point, some users should be able to start adding content provided they have have been issued a specific account (respond on the mailing list). User created accounts will be restricted to near read-only access, so don't try that yet!
http://www.gllug.org/node/1#comments Wed, 05 Sep 2007 22:23:40 -0400 rhouser 1 at http://www.gllug.org
