A weekend long Linux Users Group meeting with hundreds of other geeks, nationally acclaimed guests, its own wireless network, hotel room parties, lots of folks talking about Science Fiction and Fantasy, a place to buy cool t-shirts and buttons and such, amateur singing, anime, a costume contest, and free caffeine and snacks always available.

Conventions

Just a reminder about the upcoming Penguicon. It will be held at the same location as last year, the Troy Marriott at 200 W. Big Beaver Rd. in Troy, Michigan 48084 USA. It starts on April 29 and runs through May 1st. Reserve a room by Apr. 1st to get the convention rate. Pre-registration for the Con closes on Mar. 31st.

Linux Symposium

The 12th Annual Linux Symposium is in Ottawa, Canada on July 13th-16th. Since 1999 the Linux Symposium has provided an independent and vendor neutral venue for key Linux contributors to gather and learn about the latest in research and development.

Every year as many as 900 serious Linux developers coming from as many as 35 countries including both independent and corporate developers gather at the Symposium.

Room Party

I want to thank everybody for the excellent room party this year. It was our best yet, and I think everybody had a great time. The biggest thing I noticed this year was that we seem to be generating a lot of good karma from past parties. We're a relaxed, drama-free place to hang out and drink some beer. Other parties were either kind of lame when I dropped by, or overflowing with drama. Some parties had a silly number of rules (no liquor in or out? not letting smoking hot chicks in after you've let in the guy she came with? really?).
