First Brew Day of 2010!
Jeff and I are crazy. Why else would we volunteer to spend a few hours outside tending beer in January? But we're gonna do it. Right now we're planning to make two beers, unless somebody wants to show up with another burner, brew pot, mash tun and fermenter (and if you contact one of us early in the week, we can get you set up).
We brew outside, and it takes four to five hours. It's January, and there's no telling what the weather will do, but this is Michigan. Expect unpleasantness.
For those of you who aren't used to spending a day outside in the really cold part of the winter, you need to gear up. Long underwear, wool socks, boots that go over your ankles (shoes don't work, don't even try it or you'll freeze), gloves, hat, heavy coat. Probably a wool sweater in there. If you gear up, you'll be fine. If you fail to gear up properly, you're gonna be miserable.
We're gonna brew an Irish Stout and an Oatmeal Stout. The Irish Stout at least will be headed to the Penguicon room party. If you're coming with gear and want to brew something, please call (810-869-4390) or email before Thursday so we can get ingredients.
Plan is to start brewing at 9am. There will be coffee, but I haven't drank caffeine is years, so if you need go juice you'll need to acquire your own. There are two good places in town that I can steer you to once you get here.
We're brewing at my house. Address:
5390 River Ridge
Flushing, MI 48433
